A growing option after death is to donate your body to science. Donated bodies are used in medical school education and research to further cures for illness and other medical advancements.
Some programs require donors to complete paperwork prior to death and will not allow families members to donate a loved ones body after death.
There is generally no cost to a person or family for body donation. However, you will need to pay the fee for the death certificate. Fees are $10 per death certificate. If working with a funeral home you can order copies through them. Alternatively, death certificates can be ordered from the Maryland State Division of Vital Records You will need certified copies, photocopies will not be accepted to finalize affairs.
Following the completion of research your body or loved ones body may be cremated or buried. You may also request to have yourself or loved one returned for disposition of your choice.
